A medication called finpecia (finasteride) can stop men with mild to moderate hair loss from going bald. However, this is ineffective in regrowing hair that has been missing for a considerable amount of time. It is helpful in managing the benign (non-cancerous) enlargement of the prostate known as BPH. When treating patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia, this medication often takes six months to show results, whereas treating men’s hair loss typically takes three months.
